I saw that the beta version of the Canon software for Mac specifically does not support FacetTime or a few other ones so I was wondering what protocol, other than UVC, might be what they are using. So now, does anyone know if the Fuji version can support FaceTime. Also considering setting up different feeds with different web conferencing apps to handle the diversity of the target users. So what I am trying to accomplish is specifically trying to leverage the different fields of view that different lenses would give and don't currently own multiple HDMI capture devices.

It is both a group of my wife's friend and/or her family where some are don't want to bother installing Zoom and the source would be at family get togethers and even an up coming wedding.įinally have given thought to use this at my nephews wedding and turn several cameras into webcams, with different views, of the venue (with different lenses) so the remote participants can get more immersed in the wedding and II only own the one HMDI streaming capture device so I am trying to enable one or two additional cameras I have. Third for the crowd I am trying to support FaceTime on their Ipads is the target recipient. Second, it wants to get used just because of the wide lens flexibility that a built in webcam does not have and the ability to move the shot around. So this seems to have become more about why than if anyone know if it should work with FaceTime so let me try to answer.įirst for some I know if it, or any of the versions of similar software from Canon works its really a no cost solution if you have the camera. That said, for applications like FaceTime which is generally one on one and not really used in professional/work settings, it’s probably more trouble than its worth (and likely not permitted in Apple’s closed loop). I can imagine for that sort of purpose, using your existing Fuji X camera to deliver good quality video for live streaming, from a tripod and with your choice of focal length etc, is probably preferable to either the in built option or having to invest in new gear. Some people have had to completely adapt the way they work in the current circumstances - for instance, a friend of mine is a yoga instructor, before lockdown she hosted regular yoga groups locally but - unless the weather can be guaranteed for an outdoor location which isn’t always possible here in the UK - she now delivers those online via Zoom.

I'm genuinely interested in knowing what I'm missing here and where using a mirrorless camera for this purpose would offer real advantages over an inexpensive, purpose built webcam. Beyond that, this really doesn't make a lot of sense to me. So, please explain the attraction of it and the advantages it might offer other than perhaps to find a use for a second body that might otherwise be underutilized. Possibly not an issue if the camera is otherwise not being used, but I'm still struggling to see the advantages. I'd also be concerned about heavy sensor usage - way beyond what you'd be doing with still photography or occasional video. Generally, optimal IQ isn't a real requirement for most webcams (though I'd be interested in hearing about specific webcam usages that might be more IQ sensitive). Purpose built webcams deliver more than adequate IQ for most webcam usages, are WAY cheaper, and are purpose built for that application.

I've seen a decent number of posts in the forum here and there about using one the X-Tn series cameras (or other X bodies) as webcams, and for the life of me can't understand the attraction of it. Please don't take this as any form of criticism. If you've gotten it to work with FaceTime let me know. If you know of an article that talks about this please let me know. It has also gotten great reviews by he YouTubers who specialize in evaluating streaming devices.Ĭan the Fuji Webcam software do the same and present itself as a UVC type device?

Instead I bought a new product that is excellent for HDMI - ClonerAlliance Flint 4KP Plus which I know works with Facetime. I didn't buy the Elgato products because at the time I was looking they were in short supply and being excessively priced by retailers to take advantage of the public. HDMI capture devices like Elgato Camlink and other devices like that do based on my experience because the support UVC. Or is it interfacing to the web conference applications in some other way? Does anyone know? I know it talks about working with web conference application like Zoom but does it act like a true USB video class or UVC device which is what I think FaceTime requires? Does anyone know, if when using the Fujifilm X Webcam setup on a Mac, if it will support Facetime?
